WOMEN'S FOOTBALL: Armagh created history yesterday when they won the TG4 Ulster senior women's football title with a 1-11 to 1-9 victory over defending champions Monaghan.

The visiting side stepped up to the senior level only this year after winning the All-Ireland junior crown last season. However, at Clones yesterday they collected the Ulster senior title for the first time.

First-half goals from Monaghan's Gráinne McNally and Shauna O'Hagan of Armagh helped see an interval scoreline of 1-6 to 1-5 to Monaghan.

The sides were level at 1-8 each with just 10 minutes left. However, Armagh finished strongly with a brace of points from Caroline O'Hanlon and one from Mags McAlinden.
