Cody to rest Ballyhale players
Kilkenny senior hurling manager Brian Cody will not be calling on the Ballyhale Shamrocks contingent as they prepare for an All-Ireland club hurling final on St Patrick's Day. All Stars Henry Shefflin and James "Cha" Fitzpatrick will return to the county panel after the March 17th clash with Loughrea while Michael Fennelly, TJ Reid and Eoin Reid also look set to be called in.Cody insisted he will not be using the club's county stars during the early stages of the National Hurling League. "Absolutely not - it will be the club's call and they'd prefer to let them focus on the one thing," said Cody.
Kilkenny begin the defence of their crown with a trip to Parnell Park to take on Dublin on Sunday but Cody will be without defenders PJ Delaney (groin), Michael Kavanagh (ankle) and James Ryall (calf). Cody is expected to name a team tomorrow evening.
Meanwhile, Tipperary hurling manager Michael Babs Keating will not be calling upon his Toomevara contingent for Sunday's league opener against Limerick.Brothers Benny and Ken Dunne, Francis Devanney and Willie Ryan will link up with the panel soon but Keating is unwilling to bring them in ahead of Sunday's Nenagh tussle against Limerick.Keating is expected to name his side after training tonight.
Injury setback for Earley
Kildare captain Dermot Earley has suffered another injury blow that could rule him out for the rest of the National Football League. The midfielder missed Sunday's drawn game with Down having suffered a suspected broken metatarsal after pulling up in training on Thursday night.
Meanwhile, Limerick senior hurling manager Richie Bennis will be without forward Brian Begley until the March 25th National League clash against Dublin. Begley is out of Limerick's match against Tipperary on Sunday after damaging a thigh in a recent challenge outing. He is also out of commission for Limerick's games against Galway and Kilkenny because he is getting married.
