A round-up of other Gaelic Games news in brief
Ulster Club SHC final: Johnny McGratten played a key role as Ballygalget swept to a deserved 1-18 to 3-8 victory over favourites Cushendall from Antrim at Casement Park yesterday.
McGratten was deadly accurate from frees as he chalked up a personal tally of 1-8 to lift the man-of-the-match award and help his club to only their second provincial success.
Early goals from Conor McCambridge and Eunan McKillop helped the Antrim champions into a 2-3 to 0-4 lead after 16 minutes. But the losers went 25 minutes without a score while the Mourne men racked up a steady stream of points and McGratten added a goal to leave the winners 1-9 to 2-3 in front at the break.
A third Cushendall goal, by John Carson, cut the deficit to just one point, but Ballygalget finished with points from 'Magic' Johnston, Barry Coulter, McGratten and Stephen Clarke to close out the Glensmen.
Leinster Club SHC: Tipperary manager, Michael 'Babs' Keating's UCD had things their own way at Parnell Park, where they easily defeated Killyon 3-25 to 1-3
Keating was busy a couple of miles up the Malahide Road as his Tipp team defeated Dublin in a challenge game to mark the official opening of the O'Toole's club. By the interval UCD were thinking ahead to a meeting with Birr in the next round as the students led 1-16 to 0-1 at the break.
Pa Morrissey scored seven first-half points for the students. His replacement at the break, Redmond Barry, drilled in UCD's second goal in the 43rd minute before setting up Michael Doherty for the third. Darren Ryan grabbed a late consolation goal for the challengers.
Meanwhile, less than 24 hours after defeating arch rivals Lough Lene Gaels in the replayed Westmeath SHC final on Saturday,
Castlepollard bowed out of the Leinster Championship as they lost 2-14 to 1-10 to Wicklow's Glenealy.
Glenealy were leading 0-10 to 0-2 before the interval when corner forward, Wayne O'Gorman accepted a pass from Nigel Driver to drill home the opening goal. Alfie Devine's goal gave Castlepollard fresh impetus but Alan Driver's goal two minutes from time sealed Glenealy's win.
Antrim SFC final: Belfast side St Gall's completed a five-in-a-row of titles with an 0-11 to 0-8 victory over Portglenone to qualify for next Sunday's Ulster Championship clash with Carrickmore.
A poor first half ended with St Gall's 0-4 to 0-3 ahead, despite playing against a stiff end-to-end wind.
Gerry McAleese narrowed the gap with a pointed free-kick on the resumption but St Gall's reeled off seven points to just one from the opposition to take total command.
Ulster Club SFC: Conor Gormley's two second-half goals made it five goals in six championship games as Tyrone champions Carrickmore defeated Fermanagh's Teemore 2-10 to 0-5 to book a clash with St Galls.
Teemore depended heavily on Ciarán O'Reilly's free-taking to keep them in the game while their opponents scored 2-8 from play.
