Tipperary 1-10 Galway 0-6

Alan Tynan helped himself to 1-5 as Tipperary bounced back from their Munster minor football final heartache to seal an All-Ireland semi-final place.

The speedy forward made light of the high winds in Tullamore with an excellent display and a crucial 53rd minute goal that finally shook off Galway.

The result means Tipp will face Kildare in the last four later this month and, should they win, the 2011 champions could meet Kerry in the final, a repeat of the provincial decider.

Kerry won the Munster final by six points though Tipp showed real character to bounce back at O’Connor Park with a big win over the Connacht champions.

It was poor fare initially though as both sides struggled in the conditions and Tipp took a narrow 0-4 to 0-3 half-time lead in front of 2,881.

Galway were surprisingly off form having beaten Sligo 4-12 to 1-8 in the provincial final. They scored just once from play in the first-half, through Paudie McCormack, and just three times overall.

Four points in a row in the third quarter including two from Tynan opened up a significant 0-8 to 0-3 Tipp lead. Galway responded with their first point in almost half an hour from John Daly who added a second late on. Eric Lee fired over a fine Galway point off the outside of his boot too.

But Tynan’s 53rd minute goal would effectively decide the contest and it was a cracker as the Tipp teenager beat a couple of defenders before planting the ball in the right corner.
