Former Kerry selector Cian O’Neill has been announced as the new manager of the Kildare senior football team.
O’Neill, who won an All-Ireland title with Kerry in 2014, has been offered a three-year deal and his name will be put before a meeting of club delegates next Tuesday night.
Glenn Ryan, who guided the Lilywhites to the All-Ireland final in in 1998, had been expected to take over the role in the wake of Jason Ryan's departure.
However O’Neill, who was also part of of the Tipperary set-up during their All-Ireland senior hurling set-up in 2010, has been charged with the task of trying to deliver his native county back into Division Two following last year’s relegation.
Meanwhile double All-Star Joe Quaid is set to be announced as the new Kildare hurling manager next week.
