Roscommon 3-8 Kildare 0-12

Clinical Roscommon proved too good for Kildare in the second Electric Ireland All-Ireland MFC quarter-final at O'Connor Park.

Not even the 27th minute dismissal of midfielder Tadhg O’Rourke could derail the beaten Connacht finalists as their forwards proved too much to handle.

All of Roscommon’s scores came from play and Diarmuid Murtagh led the way with a magnificent displaywhile Ultan Harney and Henry Walsh provided plenty of support.

Chris Healy was the sole Lilywhite to make an impression, kicking two points from play and having a hand in four more.

Roscommon got off to a dream start with a Harney goal after 45 seconds after a strong run from Senan Farrell.

Nine minutes later, Murtagh should tremendous strength to hold off Cian McConnell before coolly sliding the ball beyond Seán Dempsey and Roscommon were 2-2 to 0-0 ahead.

Healy was fouled for a free from which Neil Flynn slotted Kildare’s 12th minute opener.

Healy kicked the next two points but Kildare were rocked back on their heels once more as Diarmuid McGann palmed to the net from close range following a sweeping move involving Murtagh and Harney.

Kildare kicked the last three points of the half, while O'Rourke received his marching orders and it was 3-2 to 0-6 at the interval. But Kildare rarely threatened to peg their opponents back. Four points was as small as the deficit got in that second period and late points from captain Ronan Daly and Murtagh secured the winners a semi-final against Tyrone.
