Derry 2-17 Westmeath 1-5

It was easy to tell which side needed a result from this match as Derry cruised to promotion and top spot against Westmeath who had already clinched their own promotion place before this game.

These sides will now meet in the Division Two final.

“The the main thing today was get to promotion and we did that,” said Derry’s Eoin Bradley.

Ten Derry players got on the scoresheet and once James Kielt dispatched a penalty to the net late in the first half, Westmeath clearly decided to save their powder for the Division Two final.

The second half was a procession as Derry outscored the visitors 1-11 to 1-1 after the break.

Westmeath did get the score of the game through Paul Sharry’s rocket of a goal in the 42 minute but James Kielt nailed his second penalty of the game from Derry’s next attack and from that point on the game died as a contest.
