Waterford have appointed Ephie Fitzgerald as the county men's new football manager. The former Cork women's manager, who led them to the 2016 All-Ireland before stepping down this year, is swapping directly with Shane Ronayne, his predecessor in Waterford and who recently was appointed to take over the Cork women's team.

An experienced coach and four-time All-Ireland winner with his club Nemo Rangers, Fitzgerald has been appointed for a two-year term. As a coach he worked with the Limerick team that reached the last eight of the Sam Maguire in 2011, for the first and so far only time.

A statement from Waterford on Thursday evening confirmed the appointment.

“Waterford GAA are delighted to announce that at a meeting of the Management Committee tonight Ephie Fitzgerald was unanimously recommended for ratification as the new county senior football manager on a two-year term”.
