Louth scored three points in injury time to snatch victory in the Athletic Grounds on Saturday night.
Aidan O’Rourke praised Brian White for possessing the character to convert an equalising free in the first minute of stoppage time despite Armagh’s best attempts to unsettle him.
White hit a penalty wide in the 63rd minute but ignored some interference from the opposition along the sidelines to land a difficult equalising free. The sides were level nine times in this local derby but in a dramatic finish Louth pushed on from White’s leveller with late points from Shane Lennon and substitute Cathal Byrne.
Both teams scored goals within three minutes of each other in the first half and both had a man sent off in the second half for two yellow cards.
Louth’s attacking wing-back Adrian Reid hit a low shot after 23 minutes which had crossed the line before Andy McDonnell’s final touch. Tony Kernan responded for Armagh, with a dummy to beat the keeper which allowed him to tap the ball into an empty net.
