Sligo 1-12 Wicklow 0-11

Adrian Marren rescued Sligo with three points in the last five minutes of this relegation battle at Markievicz Park yesterday.

Wicklow ran out of steam in the closing stages of the second half to allow the home side back into the game.

The visitors failed to raise a flag in the final 20 minutes of the game during which Sligo tagged on six points.

Wicklow opened the first half scoring with an Austin O’ Malley point from play after two minutes and they were two ahead when John McGrath sent a free over in the fifth minute.

Adrian Marren got Sligo off the mark in the seventh minute and the home side went two points up when Pat Hughes fired to the Wicklow net in the 12th minute.

But three unanswered Wicklow points put the visitors 0-6 to 1-2 ahead after 26 minutes.

A John McGrath point for Wicklow in the 31st minute later leveled the scores at 1-4 to 0-7 at the interval.
