Tipperary 2-16, Waterford 1-7: Tipperary booked a safe passage to the semi-finals of the Munster minor football championship at Semple Stadium.
Second half goals from Jack Delahunty and substitute Brendan Martin killed the Déise challenge as Tipp advanced to a last four clash with a play-off winner on May 13th. But they had to come from behind to win as Shane O’Meara’s 26th-minute goal was adjudged to have crossed the line.
That palmed effort handed the visitors a 1-3 to 0-5 lead but Tipp hit three points before half-time to lead at the break by 0-8 to 1-3.
The second half was mostly one-way traffic as Waterford managed just four points and only one of those from play.
In glorious conditions, Delahunty took advantage of Kevin Dwane’s error in the 35th minute to goal from close range, after the Waterford goalkeeper spilled Jack Kennedy’s effort. And Martin added a clinical second goal 15 minutes from time after taking Shane Power’s pass.
