Roscommon arguably save their best to last in seeing off a poor Cavan team in a mundane tie at Kingspan/Breffni Park.

Wind-aided Roscommon careered into an early 0-4 to 0-0 lead with Donie Smith’s three frees helping them on their way before Cavan’s Martin Dunne goaled from a penalty .

A David O’Gara goal just before the break helped the vistors to a 1-7 to 1-3 half-time lead.

Roscommon continued to be the hungrier team on the restart with freetaker Smith’s accuracy underpinning his side.
