Scoil Mhuire Clane 2-8 St Pat’s Navan 0-12
Competing in the top tier for the first time, Scoil Mhuire Clane registered a notable victory when shocking 10-times provincial champions St Pat’s Navan, in this Leinster SF ‘A’ quarter-final at Páirc Tailteann.
Third-quarter goals from Kyle Devey and Ciarán Kelly turned the game firmly in favour of the Kildare school who led 0-7 to 0-6 at the interval.
Scoil Mhuire made a terrific start with five points in the opening 11 minutes. Leinster under-18 rugby captain Conor Nash eventually got the hosts off the mark and an Eoin Finnegan point had the sides level on 21 minutes.
Points from Éanna O’Kelly Lynch and Finnegan had Colm O’Rourke’s side ahead within two minutes of the restart. However the game turned after Devey soloed through for a fine goal on 47 minutes. Kelly’s goal left it 2-8 to 0-9 with less than 10 minutes remaining.
St Pat’s made a valiant fight to close the deficit but missed three chances from frees in the final minutes.
