Strong second half ensures Louth retain Division Two status

Louth produced a commanding second-half display in Drogheda to consign Longford to their seventh straight defeat and hold on to their Division Two status .

Aidan O’Rourke’s side had to avoid defeat to steer clear of relegation, and an already relegated Longford put up a stern resistance in the opening half.

With a strong breeze behind them, Glenn Ryan’s men put the home support on edge when Seán McCormack blasted a low finish past Neil Gallagher to open a 1-5 to 0-3 lead in the 30th minute.

However, despite a nervy start, the goal seemed to spark some life into the hosts and when Derek Maguire won a penalty two minutes later, the brilliant Shane Lennon to reduced the arrears.
