Byrne’s two goals help Kilkenny CBS retain their Leinster crown

Favourites St Kieran’s mastered by local rivals

Kilkenny CBS 2-13 St Kieran's College 0-13

Two first-half goals from Jamie Byrne saw Kilkenny CBS beat city rivals St Kieran's College and retain their Leinster schools senior hurling title at Nowlan Park.

CBS held a lead in Nowlan Park thanks to Luke Scanlon and Robbie Buckley, but surged in front when full-forward Byrne flicked the sliotar home after 10 minutes..

Andrew Gaffney (free, 65) and a fine point from a tight angle by Robbie Murphy, pushed them into a seven-point lead by the end of the quarter (1-5 to 0-1).

St Kieran's fought back with points from Brian Cody (2), Billy Ryan and Robbie Donnelly – but Byrne's 29th minute goal helped CBS establish a gap St Kieran's couldn't bridge.
