Joe Canning named as replacement for Galway’s clash with Kilkenny

Captain again set to make impact off bench in league semi-final

Galway captain Joe Canning will again start on the bench for Sunday's Allianz Hurling League semi-final against defending champions Kilkenny in Limerick.

The 25-year-old has recovered from a hamstring injury and was expected to make his first Galway start of the year after helping Portumna win the All-Ireland club title in March.

He came off the bench after 54 minutes in the quarter-final victory over Limerick, but Galway boss Anthony Cunningham has named the three-time All-Star forward on the bench for the encounter at the Gaelic Grounds.

It means Cunningham makes just one enforced change and a number of positional switches from the side that started against Limerick.
