Tyrone’s Tiernan McCann will be available for selection for Sunday’s All-Ireland semi-final against Kerry after the proposed eight-week ban was thrown out at a Central Hearings Committee meeting at Croke Park on Wednesday night.
The proposed ban for McCann came after he feigned injury when Monaghan’s Darren Hughes touched the top of his head during the quarter-final clash at Croke Park. McCann dived to the ground and Hughes was sent off by referee Marty Duffy.
The proposed charge was for bringing the Association into disrepute, which carries a minimum eight-week ban. The on-field penalty for feigning injury is a yellow card.
Tyrone’s Conor Meyler had his black card from the same game rescinded at Wednesday’s hearing.
Meanwhile, Kevin Keane will be available to Mayo for their All-Ireland semi-final clash against Dublin on Sunday week after a successful appeal of the red card he picked up in quarter-final victory over Donegal.
Keane was a 70th-minute substitution in the game but was sent off by Meath referee David Gough three minutes later for striking Donegal’s Michael Murphy.
Mayo made an appeal to the Central Hearings Committee (CHC) after Keane was given a one-match ban with Mayo secretary Vincent Neary saying: “It’s a crucial stage in the championship and we would like to give every member of our panel every chance of playing in an All-Ireland semi-final.”
The CHC downgraded Keane’s red card to a yellow, with the defender now eligible for the semi-final against Dublin on Sunday August 30th.
