The Galway County Board's executive committee will tomorrow night hear referee Tommy Gavin's report into an alleged incident that took place after a county championship match between Corofin, last year's All-Ireland club champions, and Dunmore McHales in Tuam on Sunday evening.
It is alleged that Galway forward Michael Donnellan clashed with the referee after the final whistle. The Galway board's executive committee meeting was already scheduled for tomorrow night and Gavin's report will be heard by the committee. It may then be forwarded to the county's disciplinary committee.
However, speculation in Galway yesterday centred on a belief that referee Gavin didn't see who made contact with him and wouldn't be naming any player in his report regarding the incident. It is also believed that there is no video evidence of the incident when contact took place. However, a number of eye witnesses at the match identified Donnellan as the player concerned in the incident.
Donnellan has remained tight-lipped about the alleged incident.
Should the referee's report state that Donnellan struck him, then the Galway player faces a 12-month suspension, while the lesser charge of minor interference with an official carries a six-month ban.
