With the home side leading 07 to 0-4 at the interval, Roscommon hit back with a brace of points after the restart before going ahead through a Nigel Dineen free.

Galway, who introduced Michael Donnellan and Sean Og de Paor, scored their first goal in the 22nd minute through Paul Clancy, and in the 31st minute John Donnellan hit another. Clancy scored his second in the dying seconds.
