Galway secured their first away victory in the Premier Division as they ended Bray Wanderers' 10-game unbeaten streak last night.
A first-half Sean Malee header was enough for Galway to take all three points at the Carlisle Grounds as the homeside finished the game with nine men.
Both Colm Tresson and substitute Barry O'Connor were sent off by referee Paul McKeon in a five-minute second-half spell.
Malee scored after 18 minutes when he headed into the net at the near post from a Alan Murphy corner.
At the other end, Jason Byrne hit the bar with a header before Tresson scooped over when well placed.
Tresson was unlucky to see his second-half free saved by goalkeeper David Ford before he was dismissed in the 75th minute following an altercation with Eric Lavine.
O'Connor was only on the pitch for just over a minute when he saw red following a lunging challenge on Scott Morgan.
United almost added a second late on when Ollie Keogh struck an upright from a quickly taken dead-ball.
