Connacht SFC First round Galway 8-14 London 0-8: London went down to their biggest ever defeat in the Connacht football championship when they were outclassed by Galway at Ruislip yesterday.
After holding their own in the opening quarter and being only a point behind after 20 minutes of play, London were hit by three goals in the space of five minutes from Seán Ó Domhnaill, Michael Donnellan and Pádraic Joyce, respectively.
Those goals effectively ended the game as a contest and the visitors, who went into the break leading by 5-7 to 0-5, used the second half for target practice and scored another 3-7, as against 0-3 for the losers.
London had no answer to the slick movements of the Galway attack, led by the full-forward line of Nicky Joyce, Pádraic Joyce and Micheál Meehan.
Midfielders Joe Bergin and Ó Domhnaill completely dominated and, apart from the early stages of the game, the defence was never seriously troubled.
Newcomer Scott Doran, a former Wexford senior, and Fergus McMahon tried hard in the London attack, while defenders Johnny Niblock and Karl Scanlan put in a lot of useful effort in an overworked defence.
