Women's Football National League: Galway staged a second-half comeback against Meath in Tuam yesterday to book their place in the knockout stages of the National Football League. Galway trailed by four points at half-time in their Division One B clash but goals by Annette Clarke and Niamh Fahey fired them to a 2-12 to 1-12 win.
Meath started well and points by Katie O'Brien, Aoife Thompson and Gillian Bennett (two) put them 0-4 to 0-0 ahead. Clarke opened Galway's account with a 20th-minute free as Meath led 0-8 to 0-4 at the break. Galway dominated the second half and the introduction of Fahey helped them gain control. Clarke's goal came from a free and Fahey scored their second for a 2-8 to 0-9 lead. Thompson scored Meath's goal late on.
Galway top the division on eight points but Cork - also on eight - have a game in hand.
In Division One A Armagh pulled off a major surprise with a 0-11 to 0-10 win over Kerry in Ferbane. Armagh are now ensured of survival in the top flight.
Mayo top Division One A on eight points after a 2-8 to 0-12 win over Dublin at St Peregrine's yesterday. Dublin will face Tyrone in a relegation play-off. Tyrone lost to Waterford at Parnells, 1-13 to 2-6, ensuring their place in the knockout stages also.
In Division Two A Laois beat Sligo 5-16 to 1-6 while Kildare hammered Limerick 6-25 to 1-4.
