A LATE goal from Billy Clery made it three wins out of three for Galway United as they beat Limerick 1-0 at Hogan Park, to move them to within three points of the leaders at the top of the First Division table.
Clery struck to head home a Peter Carpenter corner with just four minutes remaining in a match which Limerick were unfortunate to get nothing from.
Limerick goalkeeper, Eddie Hickey, failed to collect the inswinging corner and Clery's header deflected off a defender before entering the net.
Limerick should have been two goals up by that stage, however. Howard King had missed a good opening on 62 minutes when shooting wide, while Dave Carmody could do no better from the chance of the match for Limerick soon afterwards, when he chipped wide after going through to a one on one with Galway goalkeeper, Eddie van Boxtel.
Cobh Ramblers have finally begun to state their promotion credentials with a hard earned win at Athlone.
Rory O'Connor got the only goal of the game four minutes after coming on as a 71st minute substitute. Tony Izzi created the opening for O'Connor, who beat Shane Curran at his near post, with a first time shot.
