Galway Utd 2 Longford Town 1:With two teams threatened by relegation the stakes were high and ultimately Galway United survived against Longford Town, who remain bottom of the table.
Longford shaded the opening quarter and carved out chances but Ian Ryan, Damien Brennan, and Pat Sullivan all failed to hit the target. As the half evolved Galway improved and John Lester and Derek Glynn both examined Shay Kelly's reflexes.
Eleven minutes after the restart Longford's Dave Mooney latched on to Dessie Baker's pass before beating Gary Rogers.
Parity was restored within four minutes when Galway were awarded a penalty after Pat Sullivan fouled Glynn. Alan Keane converted the spot kick.
Galway filched the winner in the 74th minute when Charles headed home Alan Murphy's corner.
