Kilkenny, who reached the senior camogie semi-finals through the backdoor system, beat Galway by six points, 2-12 to 1-9, at Cusack Park, Mullingar, on Saturday to reach the final after missing out last year.

They will not know their opponents until September 1st at the earliest after the second semi-final between Cork and Tipperary ended in a dramatic draw.

Two goals from Martina Maher provided the impetus for the Leinster team's win over Galway.

Kilkenny led from the 26th minute when Maher scored her first goal to help her side into a 1-7 to 0-5 half-time lead.

Galway struck back with a goal from Veronica Curtin 12 minutes into the second half, but with less than 10 minutes remaining their chances took a blow when Sharon Glynn's penalty went over the bar.

Maher's second goal and points from SinΘad Millea and Imelda Kennedy guaranteed Kilkenny a place in the final of the Foras na Gaeilge-sponsored competition on September 16th.

Cork and Tipperary must meet again following their highly exciting draw. Tipperary scored 2-8 to Cork's 0-14.

Cork seemed to have assured themselves of victory when Lynn Dunlea pointed two minutes from the end of normal time, but Tipperary full forward Deirdre Hughes pulled the game out of the fire when she sent over the equaliser two minutes into injury time.
