Galwegians make it four on the trot

Galwegians 24 Young Munster 13: Galwegians ensured their division one status by posting their fourth successive victory

Galwegians 24 Young Munster 13:Galwegians ensured their division one status by posting their fourth successive victory. In doing so they gave Young Munster a push through the trapdoor. The Limerick outfit's form in Crowley Park on Saturday belied their relegation-threatened status. They pushed Galwegians to the end, only to be denied even a bonus point.

Understandably, Young Munster coach John Moloney was disappointed that the "score did not justify the game", accepting that, having been denied the services of his Munster and Irish players, relegation is now likely.

Paul O'Connell and Mike Mullins were back, watched by Irish coach Eddie O'Sullivan, and aided by the combative number eight Mutu Ngariumu, and lively scrumhalf Eoin Reddan, they had Young Munster in the driving seat for long periods. But Galwegians' well-organised defence, where once again Johnny O'Connor and Michael Swift excelled, ensured Young Munster failed to post sufficient points in the wind-assisted first half.

In the second half, Eric Elwood utilised the wind to establish Galwegians' territorial advantage.
