Marist, Athlone - 5 Garbally, Ballinasloe - 24:SCHOOLS RUGBY/Connacht Senior Cup, Quarter Finals:Garbally, Ballinasloe, fought off the hardy challenge of Marist College in this Connacht Schools Senior Cup quarter-final encounter held in Athlone yesterday.
Despite leading for much of the game, Garbally had to wait until the last seven minutes before confirming victory with two late tries.
A fifth-minute try from Simon Leonard which Faolán Sweeney converted, and an Enda Fenton penalty, gave Garbally a 10-5 lead at half-time, with the Marist try coming from Colm Mulvihill.
Garbally crossed again on 63 minutes when Tony O'Brien powered his way over to all but seal the tie for Garbally. Sweeney had no problem with the conversion.
Outhalf Fenton scored the final try of the game deep into injury time after Marist lost possession in their own half. Sweeney accurately dispatched the conversion.
