Genk - 0 AEK Athens - 0 Belgian side Genk kicked off their first Champions League campaign with a spirited goalless group C draw against AEK Athens last night.

With Real Madrid and AS Roma completing the group line-up, a draw was of little use to either side and Genk, playing at home, certainly set about the game in search of all three points.

However, AEK's terrier-like defence held off strike duo Wesley Sonck and Moumouni Beli Dagano in a first half which the hosts dominated.

Genk continued to press in the second half and though AEK also began to look dangerous, neither side could turn their few chances into a goal.
