Trainer Jamie Osborne would like to run the Ascot Gold Cup runner-up in the CGA Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury on August 16th before a possible trip to France.

"Since we've had him he's not run over shorter than a mile and six. You could argue we've been running him over the wrong trip by making him into a stayer," said the Upper Lambourn trainer.

"He could travel on the bridle behind any top-class mile-and-a-half horse so we might give him a shot at a slightly shorter trip."

Jockey Danielle McCreery suffered a horrible fall going down to the start for the opening heat at Redcar yesterday.

McCreery was unshipped from the Ruth Carr-trained Only A Splash shortly before the Market Cross Jewellers Apprentice Handicap. The six-furlong contest was delayed while on-course medical staff attended to the rider.

McCreery was taken from the track by air ambulance with suspected neck and back injuries and the race went off 35 minutes behind schedule. Redcar chief executive Neil Etherington said afterwards: "She was reported to be conscious and stable and the stewards are reviewing the incident."

• This evening's meeting at Wexford is in doubt following heavy rain that has made parts of the track waterlogged. An inspection has been called for 9am this morning.
