Champion jumps jockey Barry Geraghty will miss Cheltenham's Open 2000 meeting next weekend after picking up suspensions totalling seven days at Clonmel yesterday.

Geraghty's enforced rest starts tomorrow week, the first day of both the big Cheltenham and Down Royal meetings, after he was banned first for four days for improper riding during the opening Aer Lingus Maiden Hurdle.

The stewards disciplined Geraghty after an incident early in the home straight in which his mount, Archimedes, collided with the eventual winner, Summer Break.

Later, Geraghty was handed another three days for failing to ride out for second place on McCracken in the novice hurdle.

But the day did yield some dividends for Geraghty, as Peggy's Lad recaptured his best form to take the British Airways Handicap Chase and put the champion on the 30-winner mark for the season.

An additional Flat fixture has been arranged for Fairyhouse next Wednesday.
