Irish Racing: It was a red-letter day for Ross Geraghty as he landed his first treble at Down Royal yesterday. Geraghty opened his account in the Bass Maiden Hurdle with Mr Murphy who had an easy 10-length success after leading for over half the race. Mr Murphy is trained near the course by Jerry Cosgrave who was having his first success at his local track.
In the second race, the Magners Handicap Hurdle, Another Aspect did the business for Geraghty, beating the favourite Danse Macabre in a tight finish and giving trainer Donal Kinsella a victory while he was still abroad in Australia.
Winner number three for Geraghty came in the Tennents Handicap Chase where Endofstory scored for Ashbourne trainer Pat Mooney and took advantage of the fallers Kew Gardens and Mose Harper, who came down at the third last fence when disputing the lead.
Meanwhile, Michael Hourigan was due to depart for Cheltenham straight after witnessing his Hi Cloy make short work of three rivals in the featured Hugh McMahon Memorial Novice Chase at Limerick.
Robbie Moran, 21, riding his first winner for Hourigan, let his mount lead on the bridle at the second last and the 4 to 5 favourite wasn't in the slightest bit extended to score by 10 lengths.
Interestingly Moran partnered SunAlliance victor, Fundamentalist to win his last point-to-point back in October. The Power Gold Cup is now on the seven-year-old's agenda.
Cloughjordan trainer Eugene Cleary enjoyed a memorable day as he saddled his first winner with Criaire Princess.
