John Flynn's filly travelled well and headed Annunciata on the line behind the eased down winner Zilio. That was a promising effort but it should allow Gild's trainer, Jim Bolger, who also trains Annunciata, to know exactly where he stands.

Gild, a daughter of Caerleon, may not relish very soft ground but two runs this season suggest she is a future winner. Over seven furlongs at Cork, she was staying on well to be fourth to the smart Blast Of Storm and Bolger was entitled to think a hike in trip up to 10 furlongs would suit.

The former smart handicap hurdler, Tidjani, will also attract a lot of followers as he bids to break his fencing duck in the beginners' chase. He is not the easiest ride but he does have the turn of foot to beat these at his best. He was a running-on third to Kings Banquet at Kilbeggan last time and there doesn't appear to be anything of that class against him today.
