Newcastle's Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given is hoping to overcome injury to make his 400th appearance for the club in tomorrow's clash at Everton.

Given missed the St Stephen's Day defeat to Bolton after succumbing to groin problems in the previous Premiership fixture against Tottenham. Pavel Srnicek is again on hand to deputise at Goodison Park but Roeder has not ruled Given out, meaning he could become only the ninth player to reach a quadruple century in the club's history.

"Shay is hoping to be back against Everton and we have not discounted this, although perhaps he will have a better chance of making the Manchester United game (on Monday) Roeder said.

Veteran Srnicek, 38, a star of the Kevin Keegan era a decade ago, rejoined the club on a free transfer in October as back-up at a time when Given and Steve Harper were both injured. The Czech is one of four goalkeepers to have featured this term with Tim Krul, who is also not fully fit despite being on the bench on Saturday, being the other.

Meanwhile, Republic of Ireland striker Anthony Stokes has called on Arsenal to let him know where his future lies after a successful spell on loan at Falkirk. The 18-year-old has 11 goals in the Scottish Premier League this season, but his loan expires at the end of the month.

Despite claiming he would be happy to stay north of the border, Stokes has been linked with a move back to England. He could return to Arsenal and challenge for a first-team place, while Charlton and Celtic have been linked with the teenager. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted in mid-December he had been impressed by the youngster's progress at Falkirk.

Stokes said: "Those two weeks have gone very quickly and the only disappointing thing is that I still haven't heard from Arsenal what is happening."

Tomorrow's SPL match against Inverness Caledonian Thistle will be his last for Falkirk, unless the loan is extended.

Stokes said: "If Saturday is to be my last game for Falkirk then of course it would be sad because I have really enjoyed my time up here. We will have to wait and see what happens because at the end of the day it is up to Arsenal as to whether I come back."
