Men's Hockey:Glenanne put the loss of their two international players behind them to comfortably win the Mills Cup on Saturday for the fourth time in seven years.
After a week spent in negotiations over the inclusion of Graham Shaw and Stephen Butler, youngsters Gary Shaw and Eddie O'Malley took their chance to steal the limelight as the Tallaght side ran out 4-2 victors and picked up their second of four possible trophies this season in the process.
They had to endure a torrid opening 10 minutes, though, as Fingal raced out of the traps. Mick McGuinness had already drawn two fouls from the Glenanne defence when he was bundled over wide on the right touchline by Clinton Murphy.
Ian Clarke saved the resulting penalty corner, but Paddy Gahan latched on to the rebound to slam home from eight metres.
The lead was short-lived, however. From the Glen's third penalty corner, 20 minutes in, they got a deserved equaliser. Joe Brennan's initial shot was saved by Eoin Connolly, but Brendan Parsons was on hand to scoop past the covering defender.
Barely three minutes later, the game was turned on its head as Joe Brennan's reverse-stick effort squirmed through Connolly.
In effect the contest was ended in the 47th minute as Glenanne scored from their 11th corner as Brennan laid on a sweet pass to the left post from the right which Parsons barely had to touch to put the game beyond doubt at 3-1.
Gary Shaw got the fourth which was the goal of the game, while Fingal's Adrian Sweeney did get a consolation with six minutes remaining.
