Gort 3-11 Ballindereen 0-13: Three goals in a 10-minute spell leading up to half-time were decisive as Gort saw off the challenge of neighbours Ballinderreen by 3-12 to 0-13 in the quarter-final of the Galway senior hurling championship at Athenry on Saturday.

Ballinderren built up a 0-4 to 0-2 lead but were rocked when a 70-metre free from Gerry Quinn ended up in the net.

Ballinderreen responded with two points each from Shane Coen and Kevin Coen to lead by 0-8 to 1-3 but then conceded two goals in first-half stoppage time.

John Connors got the first of them with the other corner forward Ollie Fahy also finding the net to put Gort into a 3-3 to 0-8 lead at the break.

Quinn hit four points for Gort in the second half and Fahy landed three from play to send them through to a semi-final meeting against Athenry.

Sarsfields booked a quarter-final clash with Turloughmore when they beat Clarinbridge after extra-time by 1-16 to 1-12.

Both of yesterday's Wexford senior hurling championship semi-finals were postponed owing to the bad weather.

The games involving Rathnure and Glynn-Barntown, along with Buffers Alley and Oulart-the-Ballagh are expected to be rescheduled for next Sunday.

The senior football semi-final replay between Starlights and Gusserane was also postponed, which means the final scheduled for next Sunday will be deferred.

Meanwhile, Paul Seevers bagged nine points as Tubbercurry beat Calry/St Joseph's by 0-11 to 1-7 to win their 10th consecutive Sligo senior hurling title at Markievicz Park on Saturday.
