Glover takes early control
US TOUR:Lucas Glover fired a second successive five-under-par 66 to grab an early one-shot lead in the Heritage Classic at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, yesterday.
Seeking his second PGA Tour title, the 28-year-old American piled up six birdies and a lone bogey for a 10-under total of 132 at the Harbour Town Golf Links.
The long-hitting Glover, one of three players tied for the lead overnight, hit a superb approach to a foot on his final hole for a tap-in birdie three to finish a stroke in front of defending champion Boo Weekley.
American Weekley, who won last year's title by a shot, surged up the leaderboard with a seven-birdie 64, the best score of the week.
World number nine Jim Furyk carded a 68 to lie four shots off the pace, level with fellow Americans Jay Williamson (69), Jason Bohn (66), Marc Turnesa (67) and Jonathan Byrd (67), plus Australia's Aaron Baddeley (67), the 2006 champion.
Five-time winner Davis Love was a further stroke adrift at five under after returning a 71.
The cut was projected to fall at one-over 143 with South African world number three Ernie Els certain to miss out after following his opening 72 with a 76.
NATIONWIDE TOUR:Brandon Todd made four birdies in seven holes to finish off his second consecutive 68 and a halfway total of 136 in the Athens Regional Foundation Classic at Jennings Mill Country Club in Georgie.
Todd leads by one from David Branshaw and Michael Putnam.
Keith Nolan, after an opening 69, was six over after six in his second round.
CHAMPIONS TOUR:Tom Watson made the TPC at Tampa Bay look easy as he posted an eight-under-par 63 in the first round of the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am.
Watson leads by three from David Eger and Mark Wiebe.
Des Smyth is well off the pace after an opening 74.
LET:Sweden's Emma Zackrisson seized the halfway lead at the Ladies Spanish Open at Panoramica Golf and Country Club with a five-under 67 in the second round.
The 29-year-old from Ulmea in northern Sweden held a one-shot lead on five-under 139, with Italy's Veronica Zorzi in second on four-under.
Rebecca Coakley added a 75 to her first round 74 for 149, but Martina Gillen shot two double bogeys and a treble bogey in her 80 to missed the cut on 152.
LPGA:Taiwan's Yani Tseng shot an eight-under-par 64 for a 132 total to take a three-shot lead over Minea Blomqvist and the world number one Lorena Ochoa in the Ginn Open in Florida yesterday.
