Ireland are poised to clinch their first Amateur Home International title for six years at Southerndown on the South Wales coast today.

They followed up their comprehensive 10-5 victory over Scotland on Wednesday with a tense 8-7 defeat of hosts Wales yesterday.

A share of the spoils with England today will be sufficient for Ireland to carry off the honours. If they lose narrowly and Scotland do not annihilate Wales victory will still be theirs.

The Irish had to come from behind to snatch victory yesterday after Wales took the foursomes 3-2.
