Pádraig Harrington misses out on US Open after bogey-bogey finish

Paul Dunne and Peter Lawrie also miss out at Walton Heath

A bogey-bogey finish cost Pádraig Harrington dearly in the US Open international qualifying at Walton Heath, where the Dubliner narrowly missed out on securing a ticket to the upcoming US Open.

Harrington – who has five top-10 career finishes in the US Open, but who hasn’t played in the championship since 2013 – looked set to book one of the 13 places on offer at the Surrey venue outside London only to drop shots in his finishing two holes for a second round 71 for a 36-holes total of 143.

It was the second successive year that Harrington suffered a bogey on his last hole of qualifying to miss out.

Paul Dunne – with rounds of 71 and 76 for 145 – and Peter Lawrie, who struggled to a second round 81 for 157, also missed out.

Frenchman Gregory Bourdy shot rounds of 67-68 for a total of nine-under-par 135 to head the qualifying.
