Stephanie Meadow’s bid to secure a 2015 LPGA Tour card gathered real momentum on Day Two of the final weekend of Q-school as she shot a 66 at Daytona Beach.

The Antrim golfer, who finished third behind winner Michelle Wie on her professional debut in the US Open at Pinehurst back in June, shot one of the rounds of the day on the Hills Course to move into contention in Florida.

A bogey at the last, her only dropped shot of the round, will be the source of some disappointment, but the 22-year -old did enough otherwise to move herself into contention for the lead heading into today’s third round.

Starting on the 10th, she picked up birdies at the 13th and 15th to turn in 34. Four consecutive birdies from the second, and another at the eighth, saw her move briefly to seven under before the late slip meant she ended the day in seventh, three off the lead.

Better round

Only South Korea’s Ha Na Jang (65), on five under overall, carded a better round on the course. Her compatriot Ju Young Park and American Casey Grice lead on nine under, after a 68 at the Jones Course and a 69 on the Hills Course, respectively.

Having come through the first two stages of Q-school to earn her place this weekend, Meadow is now targeting a place in the top 70 by Saturday, after which the field will battle it out on Sunday for the 20 full-Tour cards on offer.
