GOOD COUNSEL proved too strong for St Mary’s, Rochfortbridge, at Timahoe on Saturday.

Four unanswered points, two from their excellent midfielder Declan Murphy, in the opening 15 minutes set Counsel on their way.

St Mary’s opened their account with a point from Clive Keenan before Donal Hickey saw a great effort rebound off the crossbar.

But the Wexford side struck for a vital goal from Lorcan French and points from Eoin Gorman and Mark Carney left them 1-4 to 0-3 in front. After the break Graham Cullen sent over an early point and Good Counsel grew in confidence when Glenmore man Ger Aylward scored two fine goals and a point within the space of ten minutes.

St Mary’s were reduced to 14 men before the finish when Stephen Cooney was red-carded for an off-the-ball incident.

In Saturday’s other semi-final St Mary’s Edenderry beat Moate CS by 1-4 to 0-6.
