LEINSTER COLLEGES SH A LEAGUE: Good Counsel 3-17 Carlow Schools 0-9:GOOD COUNSEL, New Ross, were well on the way to victory at half-time of this Leinster Colleges SHC A tie at New Ross yesterday, when they held a 2-12 to 0-2 lead over Carlow Schools, having played into the wind.

Counsel right-full forward Jack Guiney did most of the scoring damage to the Carlow cause with both first-half goals – he was to finish with a personal tally of 2-4.

Carlow Schools fought back with great spirit in the second half and made a game of it primarily through the free-taking of corner-forward Kealan Brennan, who scored five points from placed balls.

But the game was put conclusively beyond the visitors when Good Counsel substitute Eoin Kelly scored his side’s third goal in the 52nd minute as seven home players made the scoresheet.

Shane O’Gorman was the game’s outstanding player at centre back for the winners. Goalkeeper Pat Mulhearn was soundness personified while Jack Guinane, Tom Power, Mick Cullen and Gareth Foley were excellent in attack.

For Carlow Johnny Shaw, Darren Dalton, Peter Fortune, Craig Wall and Kealan Brennan battled hard but could not prevent the defeat.
