Connacht SH final - Gort CS ... 3-9 St Raphael's, Loughrea ... 0-4: In a very disappointing Connacht Colleges senior A hurling final at Pearse Stadium, Salthill, yesterday Gort CS cruised to victory over St Raphael's as an early goal by David Kennedy set the winners on their way.
It was 1-5 to 0-1 at the interval as Alan Martyn (2) , Thomas Broderick, Niall Greene (65) and David Kennedy (free) all scored points for Gort ; while wing forward Gary Kilcarr got St Raphael's only point of the half from a free.
St Raphael's needed a good start to the second half and they were boosted by a Shane Flaherty 65 but Kennedy responded immediately. St Raphael's tried hard to get back into contention but with little success. Kennedy and Gary Kilcarr swapped scores, as did Ronan Loughrey and Keith Haverty, before Greene made it 1-9 to 0-4 from a free. Late goals from Broderick and Kieran Diviney gave the scoreline a flattering look for Gort.
