St Conleth's clinched an emphatic, seven-try victory over a battling Moyne CS in the first round at a windswept Castleknock. Despite their superior physical bulk, Moyne failed to cope with the all-running rugby of a St Conleth's side who out-paced and out-fought their generally younger and inexperienced opponents.
The Dublin side ran in four tries before the break, one each for centres Vincent Gough and Barry Rogerson, a neat try from their elusive scrumhalf Doughie McGovern and a typical forward's try for second row Paul Ainscough.
Moyne outhalf and captain Stephen Coy kept the scoreline respectable with two first-half penalties to leave his side 29-6 down before the interval, but St Conleth's added a hat-trick of tries in the second period through skipper Matt Ryan, outhalf Tiernach Donnelly and Gough completing his brace in injury time.
