The willingness of a smaller St Conleth's front eight to stand up to a huge Moyle Park pack paid dividends when Vincent Gough, the outstanding back on the field, got in for two tries to steer them into the third round at Terenure yesterday.
In a scoreless first half, Moyle Park camped in Conleth's half but could not force a score, although number eight Kevin Hanlon came close in the 21st minute.
It all changed quickly in the second half. Gough showed his pace and strength in scoring two superb individual tries in the 46th and 51st minutes. With the wind behind them, Moyle Park fought back and Hanlon claimed a try which out-half Matt Duggan converted.
