Moravia Silesia Open:Tano Goya kept the Argentinian flag flying high on the European Tour today with a seven-under-par opening round of 65 at the Moravia Silesia Open in Czech Republic.

Four winners have come from the South American country already this season, the biggest being Angel Cabrera at the Masters and the most recent being Ricardo Gonzalez at the SAS Masters in Sweden on Sunday.

Goya, whose first victory on the circuit came at the Madeira Islands Open in March, covered the back nine first in just 30 strokes.

After birdies at the 10th and 14th he eagled the 553-yard 16th at the Prosper Resort in Celadna and followed that with two more birdies.

The 21-year-old, like Cabrera from Cordoba, bogeyed the second, but then picked up more strokes on the fourth and eighth to take a one-stroke lead over the English duo of Steve Webster and John Bickerton.

Francois Delamontagne, Dutchman Robert-Jan Derksen and Spain’s Ignacio Garrido are close behind on five under.

Course designer Miguel Angel Jimenez was one under after a 71, alongside leading Irishman Michael Hoey.

Damien McGrane and Gareth Maybin are one over, but Shane Lowry (five over), Gary Murphy and Peter Lawrie (both seven over) face a serious battle to qualify for the weekend’s play.
