Saracens were comfortably ahead at half time after Phillippe Sella had scored a try converted by Michael Lynagh for a 16-6 advantage. Harlequins fought their way back, scoring twice in the 55th and 61st minutes. Captain Jason Leonard opted to take a scrum when Quins were awarded penalties.
Wing Daren O'Leary rewarded Leonard's decision with a try wide out, set up by Thierry Lacroix. Then scrum half Huw Harries touched down when Harlequins' scrum managed a push over.
Lacroix converted twice from miles out and Harlequins had transformed the match by were leading 20-16.
But Saracens bravely and skilfully drove downfield to reverse the trend with quick fire scores in the 63rd and 74th minutes.
