OLYMPICS: The Greek IOC member alleged to have accidentally helped London win the 2012 Olympics has denied making a mistake with his votes.
As the IOC ruled out any investigation into claims an error at the ballot handed London victory last July, Lambis Nikolaou released a statement saying he did not even vote in the round in question.
It has been suggested Nikolaou voted mistakenly for Paris instead of Madrid in the third round of the ballot, leading to the Spanish capital being narrowly eliminated 33 votes to 31 and allowing London to win the final round 54-50 against the French city.
It is generally assumed Madrid would have won a head-to-head contest against London.
But Nikolaou said yesterday: "All speculations regarding my role in the third round of candidate cities for 2012 are completely unfounded. I declare that I did not vote during the third round as I had announced during the election in question."
The suggestion an IOC member did vote but for the wrong city - during the ballot he said he had not voted in time - was made by Israeli IOC member Alex Gilady last week.
The IOC have ruled out any investigation, saying 104 voting boxes were distributed to the members during the ballot in Singapore and 103 votes were cast, with one not voting.
A spokesman said: "There is nothing to have an inquiry about. No abstentions were recorded, no votes were voided. It is mathematically impossible that it could have changed the outcome of the third round of voting."
