RUGBY CONNACHT SCHOOLS SENIOR CUP - QUARTER-FINALS: Sligo Grammar 11 Coláiste Iognaid 3MICHAEL GREEN took centre stage as Sligo Grammar School powered their way into the semi-finals with victory over holders Coláiste Iognaid at the Grammar school grounds yesterday.

Roscommon native Green had a superb game at outhalf accounting for all of the winners’ scores.

Coláiste Iognaid opened the scoring when outhalf and captain Robert Butler landed a penalty after 20 minutes of the first half.

Green went over for a well-worked try a couple of minutes later and although he missed the conversion the try gave the home side a platform for the second half.

Coláiste Iognaid were still well in the game at half-time with just two points separating the sides but further penalty goals from the boot of Green in the 50th and 60th minutes were enough for last year’s beaten finalists to secure their place in the semi-final.

The Galway side had opportunities from lineouts late in the second half but they were unable to find a way past the tight-marking Grammar boys.
