SailingFollowing Ken Read's leg five victory into Itajai, Brazil on Friday evening, French team Groupama are expected to complete the 6,700 mile stage from New Zealand in the Volvo Ocean Race later today after setting-up a jury rig with a 20 metre stump of their broken mast, writes David Branigan.

Franck Cammas’ team should then receive 20 points for third place after Read managed to hold off a sustained attack by overall race leader Iker Martinez, who placed second.

Martinez now has a 20 point lead in the race that has four legs and five In-Port races remaining.

Next week’s Brazilian In-Port race and leg six start has yet to include two of the fleet that are still expected in Itajai. Chris Nicholson’s Camper departed the Chilean port of Puerto Montt on Saturday with 2,700 miles to sail including Cape Horn to round.
