SLEEPYTIME awoke the 1,000 Guineas market when coasting to an impressive winning debut at Sandown yesterday.
She threatened to disturb Dazzle's summer domination of the classic betting after opening her career with a five lengths stroll in the EBF Grass Widows Maiden.
Purportedly the best of Henry Cecil's bursting team of female talent, the 30 to 100 favourite let nobody down as she barely turned a hair to defeat Tough Act.
Leading over two out, she quickened clear of the field under Pat Eddery and was eased down considerably over the final furlong in a time less than two seconds outside Red Camellia's seven furlong track record.
It was all the evidence bookmakers needed to slash the Guineas price of Sleepytime, who was available at 16 to 1 - Ladbrokes initially offered 10 to 1 after the race for her to emulate Bosra Sham next year but within 30 minutes that was down to 75. William Hill also offer 7 to 1 and Coral 6 to 1 behind 4 to 1 favourite Dazzle.
Cecil rates Sleepytime, the sister of Ali-Royal, "in the same sort of league" as Bosra Sham and must now juggle his team of talents around the remaining big two-year-old prizes.
"She has a very good turn of foot, very relaxed and picked up without Pat having to ask her. She is pretty exciting and you would have to be impressed by that. She cantered round there," he enthused.
"She is potentially the best I've got, but the main thing was to get her on a racecourse. We have the Rockfel at Newmarket or the Radley Stakes at Newbury but she will probably have to go for the Fillies' Mile at Ascot.
